Various Interludes by Kait Bell

November 12, 2025: Waiting for Various Interludes to Come in the Mail

This is my final detailed autopsy of whatever the hell I tried to do now that the dust has settled and everything that I can do has been done regarding Various Interludes, excepting the crossfading shit which will occur when the master is done. I sent it to some people and they liked it.
In the time between writing the last thing and this one, I had to remix the album to remove peaking. The first mix was really fucked and should not have ever been considered for release. 4AM mania convinced me it was good enough. It was not.
I recorded this album as one piece, which I go back and forth between thinking was a grave mistake or a great way to record. For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to do crossfades in the mix??? am I stupid??? yes I am! so in doing the new mix I had to undo those silly things. I thought it would be more of a hassle but it didn't take as long as I thought it would. Sometimes the automation just deletes itself with no way to recover it. That sucks and I wish that didn't happen. Thankfully it only happened twice!
These songs are mostly two chords if even that..and most of the chords are rather simple to play. Because I am not a good guitar player nor do I really aspire to be. I am a musician when the time is right . I am a singer when there are words to be sung. I will get better with time. I have played more complex things in the past and I forgot how to do it because I lost interest for a while. It'll come back.
The lyrics aren't the best but I like them more than anything else I've tried to write in the last however many years. I have been better at words for a while anyway. Maybe I should write words for someone else to play along to. Now there's an idea...
I was thinking, should I remove those album/artist names from the last thing I wrote? Or keep them for epic SEO manipulation? When it's all said and done this album will be in a paupers grave anyway. Until then I will allow it to exist as what it is.
Everything else you've heard about this record is true. I'm walking into traffic right now.

October 25, 2025: Why "Various Interludes"?

The original idea was to do 20-30 1 minute 2 chord songs à la THE RESIDENTS "COMMERCIAL ALBUM".
Then somewhere along the way I started adding improvisation. Then I started putting the similar sounding songs next to each other. Then it fell apart.
I'm pretty sure it was the two one minute songs on KLEENEX GIRL WONDER "PONYOAK" that were the actual genesis for how it ended up in the end. Those two songs come and go very quickly but they're catchy and they sting.
And I kept hearing about this band called GUIDED BY VOICES and I listened to them and I like them. A lot of their songs are like this too. I really like "VAMPIRE ON TITUS".
I guess interludes are easily dismissed. I don't see a lot of people talk about those two KGW songs even though Ponyoak is such a big record.
So this is a collection of interludes. The songs that would have been one and done on many other records. They are not beautiful nor particularly refined, but they are written songs. If I were to record them again, they wouldn't sound the same.
They are lazy, they are heavily dubbed, some of the errors or embarrassments were obsessively edited out, and they're clipping like crazy. Call it what you may, but don't call it a demo. This is a finished product.

Early October 2025:
The long awaited (by whom?) Kait Bell album "Various Interludes" is now done whether I want it to be or not. Due to health issues I have decided to leave it in this half complete state, it was supposed to be 40 minutes longer and have more songs. Unfortunately I have lost my motivation to work on these songs any more than I have already. So warts and all here is the album as it stands. Maybe it works better when an album is super short. or maybe not. Who nose knows.

July 2025: "About the artwork"
I drew this in class with a ballpoint pen. It's probably about 7 or 8 years old now. I found it floating around with some other drawings recently. For some reason, I drew a girl, and now I realize the girl is me.
