Emerging from the shadows: A 29-minute descent into the unknown.
Known for his foreboding explorations with his two Raubbau albums 2017 and 2020, plus his creative output on his own Qualia label, dark ambient maestro Holotrop returns, delving once again into the darkest and doomiest realms of his art. An enigmatic release, featuring five tracks numerically labeled in roman numerals. This time, however, he presents a partial departure from his extremely minimal, bleak, and desolate soundscapes that are surely extreme even within the context of an extreme genre.
Known for his ornamental-free compositions, Holotrop surprises with a cinematic twist on tracks I and V, infusing a soundtrack-like vibe into the desolate expanse. This move, contrasting his typical nihilistic tones with a subtle complexity and unpredictability: when the shadows morph into chilling echoes, leaving behind a macabre canvas of fear.
