I spent the afternoon in the desert.

You'll never guess where I spent my afternoon.

Coming over the hill, we could see the black smoke for miles
on the northbound road to Las Vegas.

Pluming and pluming and pluming.

As we passed on the southbound road,
we couldn't help but wonder—
Just how many people—how many miles and miles of cars—
Stopped by something they could only speculate on,
but we knew all too well.

And after the thousands and thousands of halted vehicles,
when we got to the very end of it—
All the way home, we knew what they were in for,
and everyone else would have to find out
