"Physical response to various stimuli, whether it is sound, music or other influences, originates from the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus is responsible for maintaining homeostasis within the body and is involved in controlling heartbeat, blood pressure, temperature regulation and emotional behaviour. The auditory system, responsible for the act of hearing and listening, is divided into three stages: auditory periphery, auditory pathway and the auditory cortex.
It is within the auditory cortex that identification
and differentiation of sound occurs, and memory-based sound is also processed within the cortex. The right side of the cortex is responsible for pitch processing and the left side for rhythmic processing,
leading to an emotional response which includes systems in the body such as the heart, lungs and skin."
