Country Bridges by Igor Iamchimciuc & Valeri Glava

Since the beginning of this century, when Valeri and I started working in the USA as touring musicians, the idea of Country Bridges was in the air. For us, who grew up in Moldova, a small country in Eastern Europe, everything was new and highly unusual here. Music in America is stylistically so much wider and diverse, yet there is something strikingly similar between American and Eastern European country music!
It took us years of listening, learning and collaborating with various outstanding country musicians until we were determined to go ahead with the recording of this album. Our goal was to take a fresh look at the wonderful fiddle tunes we learned and interpret them in our own way, with cimbalom and violin. As in the USA, in Moldova and Romania the violin is called a “fiddle” among folk musicians. The cimbalom on the other hand is the bigger brother of the dulcimer. As its sound often reminds one of a Banjo, it certainly has great potential in country music.
We hope that crossing these bridges we leave the listener in suspense between those two worlds. As we show the universality of cultural roots, we look forward to crossing many more bridges musical and physical!”
