Il Principe by Il Re Il Barone

IL RE IL BARONE is like two coins with different faces, but forged from the same alloy. First there is IL RE, “the King”. A primal scream, a mad saxophonist. Influenced by Free Jazz, fascinated by the contemporary uses of the saxophone in amplified music, it is a powerful and criminal sound that He screams, like a Lupara. There is also, IL BARONE, "the Baron", the noise. A low, deaf and violent bass, which is remembering us the perpetual fog of South Italian volcanoes.

Together they evoke those poor, miserable Mediterranean landscapes, where there is only lyricism into imperfect melodies, where improvisation is such as a vain proletarian liberty. Between the buzzing drone, vocal and saxophonist delirium, their music reminds us of the nocturnal wanderings of a Mike Patton or a John Zorn, like in their Painkiller project.

Their first project, Il Principe, tells the story of a night misadventure of a young woman in the city of Cataranzo. Beautiful but mysterious, magician, she is condemned by the stories of the dark alleys. A bad card game, a bad fate. This musical journey was mastered by Mathis Kolkoz / Kolkoz Mastering (I Hate Models, YOBOX, Blind Delon etc.) and was illustrated by Riton la Mort / Bière Noire.
