Inspired from the rites of passage into Druidism. Choosing a distant cave. With each step down into its depths an affirmation of his path, the light of the world he leaves goes from rays to pins until the cave’s darkness is wrapped around in sensory deprivation like today’s float tanks. Fasting, thirst, and exposure lead to 3 days and nights of meditative hallucinations. Carved on the walls far from the blanket of the Sun, sacred symbols dance under fixed gaze by flickering flame. After being destroyed by beings in the Otherworld, then crossing the razor’s edge he transcends his past self. Emerging reborn, a mediator of this world and the other. Singing to trees, speaking with animals, imbued with the secret lore. At a cost he overcame with the treasure he sought.
