Lyrics
Built in 1949
Worked on the Somerset & Dorset line
Made to Henry Ivatt’s design
It has really stood the test of time
Built at the loco works in Crewe
Its wheel formation is 2-6-2
Weight is just over 65 tons
And its number’s 41241
41241

Ivatt 2mt
A working loco for BR
Lived in Bath then Leamington Spa
It steams at 200 PSI
Which, as boiler pressure goes, it’s really quite high
After being in service for 20 years
It was saved by preservation pioneers
Quite a long story but I’ll tell you briefly
Now it pulls trains from Haworth to Keighley
Bachmann made one in OO gauge
I’ve got one on my model railway
It’s not well made, runs quite slow
I would ask for a refund but it’s 20 years old, you know…
In 1968 in the month of June
Painted in non-BR maroon
It pulled its first Worth Valley train
41241’s its name
In 1980 they painted it black
It went out of service but it had to come back
Fully overhauled and ready for steam
In the middle of June of 2018
They held a weekend of celebration
To mark 50 years of preservation
Can you guess which loco pulled the train?
Yes, 41241 again
