shrinking from reeling by almost always

it's time i revisited that old
lesson i'd learned, that
what has existed continues and
folds over again.
but i had kept it to
myself, what was keeping
me from sleep, while your eyes
pierced through the darkness,
fending off those dreams.
and i had prayed for a change,
hoping it'd be me
but i was just no match for
who you'd settled to be.

a wastebin full of paper crumpled and thrown,
a will and a lighter with latewalks not far from home.

the frame you're using can't support itself,
the walls are spinning and your hair is falling out.
your mirror's bent, but still reflects that girl;
shrinking under guilt in the shadow of the world.

and i wonder what you
imagined sitting in that room,
your legs crossed in an armchair,
you explaining you.
was it me and my judgement,
glares and promises?
was it them and their ignorance,
simply unaware?
and i'd had my suspicions,
i actually was quite sure,
but i was just too forceful,
or cautious as it were.
now here we are in armchairs,
explaining all our words
around all those petty concepts
like value and worth.

and i'll admit that i was a little bit caught up,
and you and i both were a little out of touch.
