Borderline by Jeff Sherman

The songs on this album all predate the material on my previous BandCamp release “The Survivor.” These represent my initial burst of song writing between the time the Sherman Bros Band rose to prominence in the Pacific NW playing primarily covers (1978) and my move to Los Angeles in 1983 "to become a Rock Star" [sic].

One of my most-requested songs in that timeframe was "Borderline," so I’ve included two versions, one solo and one with my dear friend, the incredible songwriter / vocalist Susan Logg. Sue and I had worked it up in Seattle as a duo and she is such an amazing singer I asked her to take the lead on this version. Later on she came down to Southern California and co-founded with me our retro '60s band “The Chimes of Freedom.” We remain close friends to this day.

There’s even a song, “Without You,” with a great counter-point harmony provided by my friend, and drummer from The Drive, Paul Buchignani. He was my “roommate” when I was living in my Mom's basement in Seattle before the Southern California move. Paul went on to form the bands TimeSlip, Diamondback, EverAfter, PseudoTramp and others.

So here are lots of very personal and earnest songs about past loves and my feelings of frustration in having lived a life dedicated to an artform that seemed determined not to reward my efforts. Looking back, I have a nostalgic sense again of having found a box of old family photographs or a personal diary. And of course I now realize how I was indeed “rewarded”. Beyond my wildest dreams. . .
