When I was 14 years old, I feel in love with senior in high school thinking I was so cool! He had long brown hair and blue eyes and was a hockey player, weightlifter, and loved hot rod cars. Everyone said I was just young and couldn’t see why it was so bad to have him as my boyfriend.
A few months later I was running away from home with him for a few days at a time which worried my family. Not long after I found out I was pregnant, and I was pretty happy about it because that meant my parents would have to agree with my relationship.
I got married at age 14 and had my first child at the age of 15. Life wasn’t easy moving out and going to high school with a newborn child. My newly husband age 17 was trying to finish school as well and he wanted to have his parties and enjoy life, while having lady friends on the side.
He started on steroid’s and became physically aggressive putting me through walls with a hockey check. He punched my arms repeatedly until he was satisfied that I was hurt. He threatened to throw me throw the top window if I didn’t find his favorite hoody before night fall.
I was so scared that I thought I might have to sleep with a knife just to protect myself from him if he did really try to push me out the top window.
I had a lot of shame because my parents and friend where right. He wasn’t the best man for me. What was I going to do now? Where would I go?
So I left a goodbye note on the kitchen table then took my daughter and left to the YCC shelter home to get away from the violence and start my life over again.
Then I filed for a divorce and created another path for to walk down. One that would ensure I would never be beaten up again.
I took kick boxing classes and learned more about mental health and the human phyic.
