My father and grandfather and the father before him, they worked down in this mine
And when I turned 15 I knew I had to take my place beside them on the line

In the collapse of two and nine they left my paw and brother out to die in the dirt
And so far this year my wife has died and christmas brought me nothing but more toil and hurt
I know without a steady job a man such as myself is not long for this earth
