When I was young I could sing my songs
with a passion strong and true
and I’d put my words to music
as the feelings filtered through
and I would share my songs with the people that I knew
but now I’m old, remembering’s what I do.

When I was young I would feel the beat
and pass the metre to the mold
and I could find fit passions
as the rhythm would unfold
and I believed the stories that my music told
but now I’m old—fit passions leave me cold.

And now I’m old, remembering’s what I do.
There were: hard times — and good times — loving times —
and traveling times,
and the times that had no rhyming,
when the words would never do.
There were: blossom times — and birthing times —
morning times — and dream times —
and all the time — the music letting the feelings through…

When I was young I would sing my songs

to the feelings that I knew
but now I’m old, remembering’s what I do —
