48 by Jim Tetlow

Arising out of a clutch of improvisations recorded in late 2022 rehearsing for a UV Spectra gig, with this album I wanted to capture a "current snapshot" of my music at the age of 48, a facet of a personal style I have been developing through improvisation and experimentation since I first started at 16 years old using a single modest Yamaha keyboard with a song memory and a tape recorder.

The album consists of a single 48 minute continuous piece split into four parts, each with its own mood and atmosphere. It's one of my most purely electronic works, with only a distant treated guitar loop being an exception. Growing out of sine waves, other synthesized elements emerge and respectfully coexist, ebbing in and out, coalescing into an enigmatic, immersive soundscape.

Produced between November 2022 and August 2023. A collage of three improvisations recorded between late November and early December formed the foundation of this piece, upon which further layers were added. A couple of archive recordings of guitar and synth from 1998-99 provided further cosmic spice.
