friday night at five
the hawkers close up shop
and the pub doors all swing wide
a dozen teenaged mothers
leave their strollers in the hall

sixteen college drop-outs forming a semi-circle
under the streetlight
one dude he could bob and the other could weave

then a tooth pops out of its cuspid
