Total Reflex by Joyce Yarrow and Jovino Santos Neto
Vocalist Joyce Yarrow and Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Jovino Santos Neto call their musical style ‘total reflex,’ meaning that which is co-created spontaneously, in the moment. Their musical dialogs push boundaries into new realms, each piece evoking different emotions on the journey home.
Every time musicians gather, a special place is created, and the result of their collaboration is the sum of each player's personality, plus the myriad interaction that happen at each moment. This project is focussed on each one of those moments. Most of the music here was spontaneously created, letting structures and patterns be defined as they were born. Even the songs which were previously composed received the same improvisational treatment, placing the emphasis on the immediate and total reflex for which our work is named.
