SESSION III: FRAMEWORK - Keeping it simple...

Technically this album began early this year with my usual 'sit down in front of the synthesizer for hours' technique whereby I came across some very interesting sounds and composed some very basic sequences with them to be improved upon at a later date. As some of you may be aware, I am taking a break from music work overall due to some pressing and upsetting issues in my personal life that needs my attention. Nevertheless they do say that it's impossible for creative people to not create. So, I present to you, an album based on some earlier sequences expanded and improvised using the wonderfully unique method of instant composition.

It's a very interesting way to compose because you never truly know what you're going to get. Whether you're building a sound from scratch or improvising over a sequence that you made before, your mindset is always different to when you first approached the idea and therefore the directions you take are almost completely unknown until they happen. Personally, I've always found improvisation a truly expressive way of playing and composing. When listening to music, the mind tends to find songs that fit it's current mood. For example, you're most likely not going to listen to tragic heartbreaking music if you're in the happiest summer mood you've ever been in. Improvisation is the same concept. What ends up coming out is truly a reflection and expression of what's happening in your life and in your mind at that particular time, and this album I must say holds for me a lot of pain.

I am currently going through something in my life. A loss that will mean for an absolute certainty that my life will never quite be the same again. Creating this album for me, even though I am taking a break from music generally speaking, was an absolute necessity. A collection of tone poems, soundscapes, and Future Folk Tales, all recorded in one take in one session similarly to my last two 'Session' albums. All representing and commemorative of the loss of someone so important to me, whilst looking back on the time we had with lament, and also bittersweet happiness...
