Kagami Smile drops his most realized vision to date. 'Pyre' is an album of smoke filled haze covering a basement dance floor. For the first time, Kagami adds breaks to some of his music, adding a more nostalgic touch to his vision. On 'Cloud Extract' the haze is broken by muddled and blown out bass reminiscent of Andy Stott at his murkiest. 'A Heart Was Closed' cuts the breaks with a romantic synth cloud overtaking the futuristic skyline. An album written about Shenzhen and life in a fast paced technological city. The other tracks cut through as if a Boards of Canada demo tape was unearthed and left out in the sun to dry. Downtempo trip hop beats covered in saturated smog. 'Entrance Stone' covers the landscape with blasts of drone and noise covered breaks with sheaths of light coming through while the closer 'Past the Cloud Rain, A Closed off space' leaves the listener with beautiful raindrops falling on empty fields. An evolution in sound for the artist.
