A signature track by sugar plant is now being covered—with original vocals—by INOKASHIRA RANGERS!

For the first time in nine years since releasing the UK punk cover compilation "Rangers Patrol 1977~1982 UK!" through KiliKiliVilla in 2016, INOKASHIRA RANGERS return to the label with a surprising new project: covering songs by sugar plant.
The songs chosen are "happy" and "rise," both from sugar plant’s 1998 classic album happy. Notably, "rise" is one of the band's most iconic tracks, also featured in the soundtrack of the film Ping Pong. What makes this release truly special is that the vocals are performed by sugar plant themselves—adding an authentic touch to this unique reinterpretation. The dreamlike, floating quality of the original songs blends seamlessly with the laid-back rocksteady and reggae grooves that INOKASHIRA RANGERS are known for, creating a fresh yet nostalgic listening experience.
The connection runs even deeper: Sota Takagi, the mastermind behind INOKASHIRA RANGERS, was actually a keyboardist and support member for sugar plant from their 1996 release after after hours through to 2000’s dryfruit. This long-standing musical relationship is what made this extraordinary collaboration possible.
