a cigarette feels like a friend
one that kills you in the end
a box of cookies can suffice
but soon enough you pay the price

i’m not much for alcohol
i saw my daddy in its thrall
but when i want to go to town
i sometimes throw a whole beer down

tough to plant your feet here
we stray along the route
all the games adhesive
absence so acute

i never think to travel far
although i love it in my car
just stay home and raid my mind
amazing the debris i find

used to hit the drama hard
i got beat up and and sick and scarred
mostly now i turn away
from fights i welcomed yesterday

i keep open to the muse
perhaps a bandwidth i abuse
i hide out when dark comes near
waiting til the words appear

tough to plant your feet here
