Non-Lieux by Dmitri Kourliandski 2.0

Non-Lieux is an electronic music album based in part on the music for Boris Yukhananov’s Pinocchio performance at the Stanislavsky Electrotheatre. Especially for this occasion in collaboration with sound-artist Oleg Makarov a DIY program that operates with audio-samples was developed. The result of experiments with this program is this album, a kind of post-ambient that unfolds the territory of various sound and rhythmic saturation and intensity.

Non-lieux (non-places) - the term of the French anthropologist Marc Augé, denoting places of short-term and anonymous habitat, places of passage - metro, train stations, roads, hotels - and the associated phenomena of a traceless existence, non-remembering, inevitable and fast oblivion.

The artwork is created by Netherland based art duo Graphic Surgery.

An alter ego of composer Dmitri Kourliandski, through which he explores the borderlands between ambient, dub techno, and IDM.
