The Moksha Arts Collective is a 501©3 non-profit organization that has produced world class multimedia events since 2004. They have established a global nexus of cultural and artistic expression by presenting international art fairs, multidisciplinary lecture series, outreach in local communities and participation in regional festivals.
They truly are one of the pillars of the Miami art scene. For this past Art Basel, the theme was the 'Elements of Alchemy' and for me, one of the biggest ways to "transform matter" is to change your perspective of the world and the self.
When I was approached to play at the Art Basel showcase, I knew I wanted to create a specific intro to my set that blended the theme of the night and gradually introduced the sound I have been cultivating the past year and a half or so... Acid Baile.
Jefferson Airplane came on my shuffle while I was brainstorming ideas and suddenly it was clear to me that this should be the origin point. I workshopped some ideas with Strange Bass label mate MadSavvy, and then later shaped it into 3 movements. This provided the atmosphere I wanted along with some flexibility to improvise and go into different directions to adjust to the crowd.
The end product is a project that heavily samples the original song, slowly morphing the sounds more and more each time. From using the sped up original (and a bass hit to play the sub melody) in the first movement, to a total reshaping into pure Acid Baile by the third. Alice Dee is meant to open the portal into another musical realm.
