Balloon Flower 气​球​花 by Lao Dan, Greg Kelley, Glynis Lomon

In April this year, after a six-year hiatus, Lao Dan returned to the United States for his second tour.

“Balloon Flower” is a live recording of a trio consisting of Lao Dan,Greg Kelley, and Glynis Lomon. This album has a strong experimental nature, where you can hear Greg Kelley’s various trumpet techniques and Glynis Lomon’s unique vocal and water telephone sounds. The album presents a rich array of sounds and melodies, offering listeners a truly unique artistic experience. Although this is their first collaboration, the unspoken chemical reaction between them is evident, as they communicate seamlessly through dialogues of notes and tones.

This album also reflects their bold exploration and creativity in the realms of free improvisation and experimental music. Each musician's improvisation transcends the traditional use of instruments, pushing the boundaries of sound. Greg Kelley adds depth to the music through technical innovations on the trumpet, while Glynis Lomon's vocals and waterphone create a mysterious and surreal atmosphere. Lao Dan's performance acts as a bridge, bringing cohesion to the trio's collaboration, resulting in an album full of spontaneity and exploration.
