Choreographies by Lars Bartkuhn

Choreographies was originally released exclusively in Japan in the year 2005 and is now available for the first time world wide, remastered and ready for your listening pleasure.
The album takes a very different route than its predecessor, my debut album Dreamland. Its sound seems to be routed deeply in the 80s but the actual musical ingredients stay timeless: A lot of melodies, harmonies, Jazzfunk infused arrangements and some real songs sung by yours truly.
The 80s sound on the record wasn't intended to be retro or just another gimmick, but to serve as a vehicle for the music to take off into the higher spheres where everything feels good, serious and profound.
"Windy City" for instance is one of my career highlights and whenever I listen to it I cannot help but smile about how round and complete it is.
Most of the tunes like "First Friendship" or "No Doubt About It" are uptempo and somehow dance floor friendly. But they are complemented by some more introspective vibes like on "Universal Blues" or other seemingly more abstract excursions ("Nights in China").
My main intention during that time was to make my music sound like a full live band as close as possible. I played all the parts myself in a very "first take approach" to preserve a live attitude, but prepared them thoroughly in order to make them really fit together.
For those who listen a bit more carefully: Like on all my other albums there some "hidden" melodies, harmonies and other elements that appear throughout the whole sequence of songs, sometimes in different shapes, sometimes as little quotes. This technique serves for me as a tool to give everything a glueing or unifying touch; it is what defines the album experience for me.

Since its original release I've always wanted this music to be heard outside Japan but it wasn't meant to be - UNTIL NOW!
