Mana kokle by Latvīte Cirse

The world of kokle music is one album richer. Latvīte Cirse plays not only the ethnographic, but also the electronic and the concerto kokle. In her solo album ''Mana kokle'' she has included six compositions that she has composed in recent years which portray the emotions of the world.

Latvīte’s music shows noticeable effect both from folk and academic music. It is characterized by clearness, polyrhythmic elements and a musical expanse. Her music carries a bright tone and a sensuous dynamic. Latvīte has graduated from Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, has studied at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts in Helsinki, learning the different means of playing the kantele, has participated in competitions in Belarus, Russia, Finland, has played in groups Raksti, Spēles, Vētras Saites and composes music for concerto kokle ensambles.

With the ethnographic kokle Latvīte has performed as a solo artist in various music projects all over Latvia, has held master-classes in kokle camps as well as taught individuals interested in playing the kokle. The bonds with concerto kokle players remain unbroken. She writes music on commission for ensembles and solo artists, incorporating the ethnographic kokle.
