Manazil means “homes”—not just the physical ones I’ve lived in, but the musical homes found within each Maqam. Set in Maqam Bayyati and Iqa’a Shaftatalli, the Taqasim (structured improvisation) explores each note of Bayyati as a modulating center, creating a journey through these musical spaces.
Layth Sidiq is a Grammy-nominated violinist, composer, and artistic director of the NY Arabic Orchestra. He has performed at top festivals like WOMEX and the Montreal Jazz Festival, won 2nd at the Seifert Jazz Violin Competition, and was named Best International Artist at the 2020 Boston Music Awards. He is also featured in Assassin’s Creed Mirage as lead vocalist/violinist.
