Dei Starr by Lupus Dei & Lou Brindell
This project was unique in a few different ways. The spontaneous way we came together on it started as seamless as the end result became. Lupus and I both have an energy about us that is supportive, calm and focused. I think that we have personalities that compliment a songwriting relationship perfectly. Lupus has a visionary vibe, I have a very direct style and we both are versatile and ambitious yet open to inspiration however it may reveal itself. This combined to form a work that I'm very proud of. Lupus called it two emcees sharing the same vision as if we were looking out of one set of eyes.
Abstract as it is poignant and current, we somehow managed to float above current events while staying almost timeless with the expression of the language. Without anything spoken prior to writing, both of us had this sort of capre diem theme organically infused into the concept behind these songs. What we wound up was a pretty rich and diverse sonic range of wordplay and subject matter.
The beats that we used for this project were some of my personal favorites (as far as my own beats go). I think we definitely did them justice. Lupus called the production "masterful". I'm honored that he said that. I'm blessed to be working with talented people like Lupus Dei.
Humility of both our personalities made this EP such an effortless journey.
We hope that the people that listen will make it as successful as the experience of creating it was.

Mixing multi-styles of inspiration, melodic vocals and the rhythmic heartbeat of roots reggae, the energy and grit of indie rock and the wit and cerebral subject matter of classic, conscious hip hop, his music is something that is refreshingly original.
