Forbidden Fruit by Lemonectric

When the daughter of King Bloom V was just a child, a star fell from the heavens. Throughout the Kingdom of Cydonia, word began to spread of a strange metal contraption that glowed and moved under its own power. The automaton was soon brought before the king. It began a most unholy performance -- ephemeral creatures appeared on its surface, gesticulating and making guttural incantations in an unknown tongue.

Horrified, the king sentenced those who had brought it before him to death for witchcraft and ordered that the automaton be destroyed. However, when attempts were made to dismantle it, it defended itself with whirling drills and sharp beams of burning light, escaping in the confusion. In the night, the witches also mysteriously disappeared from the dungeon. The events made a lasting impression on the young quincess Rosa.

Now 10 years older, Rosa has been secretly building contraption after contraption, hoping to understand how the metallic visitor seemed so alive. One day, at the smithy where she requisitions parts, a traveler makes reference to a reclusive cult called the Order of the Vessel. Its followers claim to have found eternal life through worshipping an automaton, which they believe to be a message to all of Pome from another world. The quincess decides to set out in search of their hidden temple somewhere on Mount Pyrus to ascertain the truth.
