Closer by Lila Tristram

The third single from Lila Tristram’s forthcoming album, Closer is an intricate exploration of yearning, dreaming and the volatile experiences of love. Bringing together a five piece band, Tristram takes her audience on a powerful journey between delicate intimacy and anthemic boldness.

“My love for music takes me to all sorts of unexpected highs and lows. Sometimes I wake up wondering what the hell I’m doing, and other days I feel so connected to it that I could cry. Navigating the industry is a bit like navigating love. That’s what Closer is trying to express.”

Tristram’s vocal delivery begins as a soft lullaby, slowly building into a passionate performance, full of energy and life. Instrumentally, the song weaves between sonic landscapes; sections of ethereal vocal harmonies and drifting reverb erupt into choruses filled with loud guitars, heavy synths and crashing drums.

Somebody get me out of this one / I wanna be a composer / You’ve been working overtime / We could have been closer.

With a background in classical music, Closer is a showcase of Tristram’s complex musical knowledge. With shifting time signatures, intricate melodies and rich jazz chords, it is not just the lyrical content which speaks of passion. The writing itself demonstrates a deep love, appreciation and respect for the medium of music.

The track features Gus White on drums, Ailsa Tully on bass, Jack Handyside on guitar and Tim Gardner on synths. It was co-produced by Lila Tristram and Gus White, and mastered by Tim Debney (Sufjan Stevens, Thom Yorke).

Closer will be available on all major streaming platforms on 26th September 2024.
