Water Tower by L'Orage
Over the course of 8 years, the sound of L’Orage has undergone expansion and refinement. Navigating the intricate paths of jazz, moving freely through eras and styles and transgress musical boundaries. After many hours and much exchanges on the road, the quartet format took shape and became essential in creating their third album: Water Tower
. Honouring an organic approach and live recording, reminiscent of revered masters, the music of Water Tower was captured in the intimate studio of Fabien Iannone. Amidst chestnut picking and fireside meals, L’Orage sculpted its songs and melodies, its rhythms and ballads. They drew inspiration from the wind in the pines and dry stone walls of their cascina in Ticino to concoct their most graceful achievement. Much like a family on holiday south of the Alps, L’Orage has become a tight unit elevated by music.
Tenor saxophone, Guitar, Bass, and Drums; together and free to move with their own voice, the group maintains total cohesion. The breath and lyricism of Ganesh Geymeier on the sax are sublimated by the versatile and unifying guitar of Robin Girod. Nelson Schaer on drums and Fabien Iannone on bass make up the sometimes laidback, sometimes on top, but always magnetic rhythm section.
From the very first sounds of the 7 track record, the sonic tone is felt, and an appetite for ethereal atmospheres spreads. Building on elongated rhythmic and delicate phases, the record suggests the rare narrative of a complete album. A landscape of mountains, lakes, and rivers where each composition is anchored, evoking gentle melancholy, warm memories and a crisp January sun.
