“Traveling Shoes”
Well the old crow crowed and the blue bird sang
The cat got caught in the maple tree
The barn was falling and the cat was callin
I fell in love with my baby to be
Walking through the woods in the early morning light
Sun was passin on by the night
I left that town, wanna fuss and fight
I’m rollin through the country and I’m feelin alright (are we alright)
Woke that morning it was drizzling rain
I rolled on over and I felt no pain
Headin to the valley straight through the alley
In the shadow of that old oak tree 2x
Cows was a runnin and the pig slept in
I walked so far my shoes worn thin
The sky was blue my feet was red
I bummed I ride and slept in an old shed
Headin on West again, found me a swimming hole
Jumped on in
Little fish swimming between my toes
Mean old crawfish clipped on to my nose (mean sun of a gun)
Train whistle blowin, so I jumped on in
I met a hobo named Peg Leg Jim
Now Jim really wadn’t peg legged at all
When He heard that whistle blow he made the call (I’m runnin as fast as I can)
I was long gone, I was there to stay
But that strong lovin woman brought me home one day
With a home cooked meal and feather bed
Sure was better than that old red shed (like me a good shed)
Wanderin around the world that way
I grew a little weary need a place to stay
But when I get that travelin bug again
I hop a freight and roll with the wind (got my travelin shoes on)
