New York-based producer and DJ Ma Sha returns with ‘Hydrofall’, a 4-track EP arriving July 31 on Steel City Dance Discs. The first single ‘Sealegs’ drops July 2.
Built from live jam sessions and instinct-led synth experiments, ‘Hydrofall’ is Ma Sha’s most fluid and intuitive work to date, a record shaped not by precision, but by letting go. Improvised, emotionally raw, and texturally rich, it embodies what she calls “a sonic trust fall”: a leap into process without a plan, guided solely by impulse. “This record is me diving in—no map, no plan—improvised, messy, but carried by a current I trusted.”
Opening with ‘Sealegs’, the EP sets off on a wave of buoyant instability, loose rhythms and flickering synths that feel like finding footing on a shifting surface. ‘B Effect’ follows with metallic percussion and relentless energy, before ‘Aluga’ submerges into a spacious, dub-washed world of voice-like tones and meditative drift. Closing track ‘Pelagik’ acts as the gentle exhale: sparse, serene, and ritualistic.
