Mill Creek from Mill Creek by Mark Mitten

"Mill Creek" is the song about my time in East Tennessee. My address was 1311 Mill Creek Road, and running across the back of my 2 acres was a little flowing creek. The Moody family owned the wooded hills behind it, though the coloring gave the hills a moody aura of their own. Especially when it rained, or in the winter when the leaves fell off. I never did build a new barn, but I wanted to. And I never did tear down the ratty old barbed wire and replace it with smooth wire, but I wanted to. And there were so many blackberry bushes back there. When they were in season, they were full and rich and too many to eat. My black lab would even eat them off the vine. (Once I made a blackberry milkshake--delish). No blackberries you can buy come close, and I can never eat them now without thinking about Mill Creek.
