To mark the 25th anniversary of “Automatik,” Bounteous Farina proudly presents the first digital release featuring Thomas Demand's fully restored 24-page booklet, which includes a conversation between Mark Polscher and Laura Berman.

“Automatik” is a 72-minute piece for 4-channel electronic music. It is the first area of the four-part cycle “Die Mechanische Braut” (The Mechanical Bride) and functions also as electronic music within the opera of the same name, which forms the second area of the cycle. The entire cycle was composed between 1998 and 2000.

The 1. Sektor of “Automatik” was commissioned by the Institute for Communication Studies at the University of Munich and premiered there in July 1999. The entire work was performed for the first time in the run-up to the opera premiere at the Staatstheater Darmstadt in November 2000. In June 2002, the Dresdner Zentrum für zeitgenössische Musik presented “Automatik” as part of its “Park der Sinne” festival. All performances were projected in the original 4-channel version.

“Automatik” was recorded between April and September 1999 and spatially processed. Polscher then produced a stereo version, which was released on CD in March 2000 by the record label marc aurel edition and is still available today.
