Australian electronic artist Matt Goodluck returns with Portals, the follow-up to 2024’s Inner Cosmos. This new collection takes a more structured, rhythm-driven approach, blending progressive synth work with cinematic sound design and rich, melodic textures.
Spanning 11 tracks, Portals features collaborations with several South Australian musicians, including a serene co-write with Chapman Stick player Andy Salvanos (Synergy), fluid fretless bass from Mark Franco and standout guitar contributions from Max Lopresto and Rob McDade. From the layered, genre-blurring opener Shifting Sands to the moody, synth- driven Dark Waters—inspired by Stranger Things—and the Tangerine Dream-esque After Hours, the album draws on a palette that nods to both classic Berlin School and 80s soundtrack minimalism.
Mixed and mastered by acclaimed soundtrack composer Cornel Wilczek (Talk to Me, Bring Her Back, Together), Portals offers an immersive listening experience and is a vibrant, imaginative work that travels through multiple moods and sonic landscapes—each track a new portal to explore.
