Paris Fragments by Matthew Hassell

In the Fall of 2018, I went to Paris for a work. Unable to speak French, I found myself wandering around in my off time, recording bits and pieces of the Parisian landscape. This project is the result of revisiting and creatively arranging select fragments of these recordings; reimagining new experiences from moments when I felt overwhelmed and alone.

My favorite paintbrush is a microphone.

As a traditionally trained visual artist working in sound, my work centers around creating listening experiences that confront an aural perception of one's own body in space.

They are meeting places, field recorded fragments forming a communal experience within the imagination of the listener.
