Immersion by Hiram
Immersion is a long-form sound work composed during the Summer of 2022, premiered as a live outdoor performance of eco-music and environmental sound.
Created in collaboration with the Art for Water initiative, this piece reflects the artist’s work toward certification as a MN Water Steward, focusing on public conservation outreach. The music invites listeners to forge personal connections with water and nature through a shared sound-art experience in a beautiful outdoor space.
Drawing from field recordings and underwater sounds captured at Wood Lake Nature Center and the Minnehaha Watershed, Hiram weaves wooden flutes, brass bowls, woodwinds, analog synthesis, and electronic processing into a sonic narrative about water’s timeless journey—from liquid to vapor, from the skies to our homes.
Performed live in real-time, the work is designed to resonate in harmony with the surrounding environment. Submergible hydrophone microphones were used to capture the waters of Wood Lake, incorporating them directly into the composition.
This is a live recording of the event from Saturday, August 13th, 2022, in conjunction with the 2022 MN Confluence of Stewards event.
