Well I searched for desolation

I saw it in Bruce Kingsbury
When he fell on hallowed ground

Well they tried to give him medals
They're all rusting in the rain
And the mud hid all our faces
But it couldn't hide our shame

I found my disillusion
When Blamey called us failed
Felt like Murder at Koitaki
When we stood and disobeyed
And our eyes blazed out in anger
As we stood out in the sun
it's the Rabbit runs who get's shot down
Not the man holding the gun

And I saw it in the faces
Of the boys returned as men
And I see it in their eyes today
As I saw it clearly then
For their wives were young and pretty
But their hearts were ripped to shreds
