mdau
mdau was conceived in September of 2021 through the collaborative vision of Andrew Ulku (drums/percussion) and Max Dakota (guitars/keyboard/vocals). In December of 2021 the band was rounded out by Latif A. (bass). Having nurtured their songs and sound over a two-year period, mdau finally has stepped out to be heard by those who love good music.
The only way to describe mdau's music is eclectic and wide reaching. Combining musical styles from reggae to Latin jazz, gospel, folk and rock influences among others, you’re bound to hear something that resonates within you. It’s a powerful presentation that speaks from the Spirit, addresses current social issues and yet has a musical appeal that crosses the boundaries of any one given genre.
Having already secured a weekly three-month residency from June to September of 2022 this band simply looks for more, and greater opportunities to ply their trade. mdau music is true soul music. A tonic for the soul/spirit. It’s a place where one can find respite from a chaotic and at times confusing world.
From Max’s vocal presentation to the overall musical output, and with the release of their 5 song EP entitled Hope & Glory, mdau makes a strong case for being one of Los Angeles’ best, quietest new musical acts as they strive to be consistent and present a wonderfully entertaining and uplifting show on any stage they happen to appear on.
