The Rain by SUEP

‘The Rain’ is SUEP’s first new music in 2 years, out on the 13th of October via Memorials of Distinction. This comes alongside the announcement of their only headline of the year, at the Brixton Windmill on the 11th of December.

Returning after the success of their delightful debut ‘Shop’, SUEP are back with their signature mixture of boundless energy and artfully askew reflections on being alive. ‘The Rain’ is a slinking, secret-agent type beat, a new-new-wave spin on Francois Hardy’s late ‘60s groovy chanteuse era.

Singer Georgie Stott says it’s about “an inability to face a past self, the rain being a force that protects me from the pain of previous experiences, a pure cleansing thing that soothes me when having flashbacks from more tumultuous times in my life.” As always, SUEP combine these dark, grounded realities with danceable rhythms and other good vibrations.

SUEP, led by Georgie Stott and Joshua Harvey with a somewhat flexible membership, are now legends of south-east London’s exciting underground scene, with George Nicholls, William Deacon, and Louis Forster completing the line up. Receiving acclaim across BBC 6 Music and the indie press for their ‘car boot sale’ pop music, SUEP rummage through and select the best of the jumble bin of music history, putting together interesting pieces to create fun yet deeply artful outfits. The band are affiliates of the Gob Nation collective - including The Tubs, Sniffany & The Nits, Ex-Void, etc., described as uniting around “a leftfield sensibility, lacerating wit and snotty attitude” in their Guardian profile.
