4307 by Meso & Central American Sound Library Project
Unprovenienced lip-rest blowhole bi-globular effigy flute drilled with three finger holes representing a seated anthropo-zoomorphic figure with bird features, legs tucked up to the torso, and arms crossed over the knees.
This aerophone type has been reported in the Guatemalan Maya Zone, northeastern Honduras (Sula Valley), and El Salvador. Stylistically speaking, however, this example resembles the poly-globular flutes from the Sula Valley Region and hypothetically dates to the Late Classic Period (AD 600-850). Registered under accession number #4307, the MIM acquired this sonic artifact from Galerie Deletaille on November 22, 1965.
