AAM 1244 by Meso & Central American Sound Library Project

Unprovenienced end-blown flute with a lip-rest saddle blowhole and a tri-globular resonator drilled with three finger holes. AAM 1244 may hypothetically have been manufactured in the municipality of Chicacao (Suchitepéquez department), Guatemala, or in the neighboring department of Chimaltenango and possibly looted there. But its provenience remains highly uncertain. This aerophone was acquired by the Art & History Museum (AHM), Brussels, in September 1936 and possibly dates to the Epiclassic (ca. AD 700-950) or Early Postclassic period (AD 900-1200). It was formerly part of a private collection. Please click on the track names for more pictures of the instrument.
