AAM 39.155 by Meso & Central American Sound Library Project

This Marbella zoned/scratched type zoomorphic globular flute (ocarina) drilled with four finger holes features a felid (possibly a jaguar) and dates to the Early Bagaces Period (AD 300-500). Its tripod configuration, with an air duct functioning as a support, is typical of the said period. This unprovenienced sonic artifact is equipped with a thick ring for suspension and was probably retrieved/looted in the Nicoya Peninsula, Guanacaste Province, Costa Rica.

This aerophone is currently held in the storerooms of the Art & History Museum (Brussels). The Belgian Federal scientific institution bought it from Marcel Dumoulin in February 1939.

Overall dimensions (height x depth x width): 3.42 x 5.42 x 2.96 (cm).
