I couldn't sleep for days
After the second plane
Thinking of all the different ways
They had to make us die

And on the glossy map
The little island drawn in black
Was the only place that seemed safe enough
In its North Atlantic insignificance

I dream of flying to some rocky little island
Burned by the sun reflecting off the sea
Escaping from this poisoned world
Of thieves and dogs and senators
To my own private kind of Dover Beach

I think about that sleeper train
And how it felt to slowly wake
And realize that in the night
They'd taken everything

Or three years ago, on my back
Afraid of what might come to pass,
Crying out in pain,
Impaled on a copper cross
