This is a version I recorded between December 1981 and January 1982, but it is basically the very same work I, Deian Louis Francis Albert Victor Nicholas George Mountbatten, composed/wrote/performed on 5th June 1973 when I was an seven years old schoolboy and named it Africa. It was earlier in 1973 when inspired by my German teacher from Hannover called Ms./Frau Haug I joined a German organisation called “Brot Für Die Welt* in order to focus on humanitarian work and collect money for starving people in Obervolta, Africa; and my little success, to have collected and transferred my 1rst circa DM300 (equivalent to £100 at the time, equivalent to £1344 in the year 2021) for a girl of my age in Obervolta, and following her thank-you-letter, I felt inspired to compose/write this song I named AFRICA, my protest song against starvation in Africa for us white Europeans to all feel obliged to help at least by sending money to those mostly in need. I was the very 1rst music composer who did this.
