ICCHĀ by Micha Volders & Miet Warlop

ICCHĀ, meaning 'desire', is a multidisciplinary project that started in 2023 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Conceptualized and directed by Miet Warlop and musically enhanced by Micha Volders, the work "Chant For Hope" involved seven native performers and premiered at the opening of the Dhaka Art Summit.
The performance of casting hundreds of Bengali words in plaster fostered a dynamic interplay between performers and the public space, evolving into a monumental living sculpture.
Wielding these plaster words made language extremely tangible, sometimes leading to unexpected chaos and Impromptu slogans.

The compositions and recordings of this performance were further developed by Volders into an album that carries the inherent structure and heart of chant for hope. A captivating soundworld that draws energy from the musical cadence and rich heritage of the Bengali language, injected with angular drumming and chants that oscillate in mantra-like repetitions.

An uncompromising journey featuring the performances of slam poet Shayer Noor, the energetic Muhammad Shanto, and the Chittagonian-spirited Tanny Das Gupta as protagonists while navigating through the vibrant frenzy of Dhaka.
