Guiding Light

Sometimes I think of the sacrifice
That my mother made for me and all of us
Was it right?
We didn’t think much of it at the time
She was just our mother, of course she’s divine
A woman’s job always is to protect
She’s holy as the saints that I respect

Now that I’m grown up and raising my own
All on my own, so far from home
I’m reaching for her and her guiding light

Send your heavenly light my way
I’ve been lost inside this darkness
I’ve forgotten how to play
Oh…
Send your guiding energy
I've been lonely it’s been hard
But I still follow my dreams

I may not have arms like Ursula
To serve you as fast as she could, yea
But with each day that I still rise
I’m doing my best to satisfy
But there’s still something inside of me
Like a butterfly, I’m so free
But I've made my nest, and here I rest
Hope it don’t get the best of me

She was so young and gentle when she started
All she wanted was us, so openhearted
Time went by, and so we passed through her
She sacrificed her life and that’s for sure

Nobody thinks to question it
A woman’s job is full, and that’s just it
You can’t expect nothing in return
Just their joy, their laughter, desire to learn

I was the first bead on her necklace
Of all the flesh that she bore in anguish
Now we’ve all grown up and have our own
Five sisters, seven daughters, look what time has done
We’re from a place where the love ran free
In the daughterland we ran and we climbed up trees
My mama was so rich from the fruit she bore
Now she’s a star in the sky
Could the heavens want more?

Send your heavenly light my way
I’ve been lost inside this darkness
I’ve forgotten how to play
Oh…
Send your guiding energy
I've been lonely it’s been hard
But I still follow my dreams
