Like the feeling of being on a rooftop in the city on the first warm summer night, Beach Captain is a soft celebration, and a return home. It is a liquid joy. On this solo compilation of beloved covers and treasured B-side originals, Ocean Music’s Richard Aufrichtig, reveals once again that he is as prolific as he is open-hearted. Recorded in just a day and featuring only Aufrichtig’s voice and guitar, Beach Captain is a simple lofi rock love letter to you the listener, to his heroes, and to himself. Aufrichtig’s songs are elegaic musings which elevate the mundane in a straight-forward, and exuberant way. They are diary entries, but also landscapes. His original songs pair so sweetly with covers––songs that he loves. You might know these songs (by Bob Dylan & Joanna Newsom & Joan Baez & The Strokes!), but you haven’t heard them.
