Mundo from Mundo by Oddest Number
"Mundo" (Portuguese for "world") continues our exploration of blending Brazilian rhythms with ambient electronica.
The track began to take shape when I got my hands on a handcrafted handpan from a Brazilian artisan. It quickly became my go-to instrument and the foundation of “Mundo.”
We layered multiple takes of the handpan, played in a Samba rhythm, with synth drones and a heavy bassline that alternates between Samba grooves and bouncy Techno beats (with a nod to Baile Funk vibes). The result is a track that feels both transcendent and immersive.
The name “Mundo” reflects the concept of creating “worlds” through the process of music production. I’m really into deep listening and the power of sound in shaping our consciousness, especially in altered states. Working on this track felt like creating small “worlds” that can be inhabited, even if only for a brief moment.
