Combines is a collaborative electroacoustic project that fuses field recordings, free improvisation, and sound processing to create distinct sonic spaces. It began not with a concept, but with a conversation, a slow exchange of files, sounds, and impressions traded across time zones. What emerged was a shared method of listening: to sounds, to rooms, to weather, and to the new environments generated when disparate places overlap.

The pieces on Combines reflect a blended geography. While improvisation anchors the work, every element, from percussion, guitar, and objects to environmental noise and intervention, folds into the next until authorship itself becomes porous. The music is assembled like a collage, with Max and Kevin working both independently and together, merging location and texture to juxtapose the immediate with the distant.

The title speaks to the process, not only the merging of artistic approaches but the way external elements, landscapes, windows, passing traffic, and quiet rooms, are pulled into the structure of the compositions. Everything that entered the recordings was allowed to stay. Combines is the document of this exchange, a meeting of two practices, shaped in motion, assembled in correspondence, and finished in the dark edges of shared sound.

Kevin Corcoran is a San Francisco–based musician and artist. Working with percussion, location recordings, and electronics, he explores texture, place, and improvisation through extended techniques and feedback systems. His work spans live performance, installation, and recorded projects, and he has performed in the US, Mexico, Europe, and East Asia. Kevin is also co-founder of the Mare Island performance series Re:Sound.

Max Devereaux is an American artist, musician, and filmmaker based between Southern California and Minneapolis. Working across free improvisation, electroacoustic composition, painting, film, and song, his practice moves between familiar forms and experimental extremes, often merging disciplines into lo-fi, intuitive hybrids.
Self-taught in both music and visual art, Devereaux draws on improvisation, raw process, and personal mythology as primary tools. He has toured Japan, presented a solo painting exhibition in Tokyo, and releases music internationally on independent labels in Japan, South Korea, Europe, and North America.
